Educators in Action

Educators have a huge role to play in ensuring that the public understands the role of biodiversity in their lives, and their role in maintaining Ontario's biodiversity. Here are some items we've created that will support you in that task.

A Biodiversity Primer for Ontario. The basics about biodiversity - use it to ground yourself, or as reading at the Intermediate and Senior levels. Acknowledgements.

BEAN Education Materials. Biodiversity-related activities, units and programs that BEAN has developed. Downloadable and free for non-profit, educational purposes.

Biodiversity-Related Education Programs. Access to programs by grade level, including some sample activities/lessons. May address components of biodiversity rather than the whole.

Biodiversity-Related Education Providers. Whether in class or in nature, these providers will deliver biodiversity-related programming to your class or youth group. May address components of biodiversity rather than the whole. Providers! If you wish to be added to our list, please contact us.

Biodiversity in the New Science & Technology Curriculum Grades 1-8. Here, Big Ideas and key Expectations are linked to the concepts that BEAN has identified as basic to a fundamental understanding of Biodiversity. See how what you teach now supports that understanding, even if you never use the term.

What You can do to Support and Promote Biodiversity. We all can, and must, help. Here are links to what you can do in your classroom and in your school, including funding sources and a school footprint calculator.
